Skills and Concepts in Geography II: Quantitative and Analytical Skills (F8509)

Spring teaching
On this module, you’ll develop essential skills in quantitative and analytical methods, which are key for evaluating various types of numerical data in both human and physical geography. You’ll cover topics such as:
- essential maths
- trigonometry
- descriptive statistics
- inferential statistics
- least squares regression
- data analysis within ArcGIS.
Each week, a lecture introduces a new topic, followed by practical workshops where you’ll apply these skills. The workshops focus on commonly used methods of data visualisation and analysis for geographers.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 37 hours of contact time and about 113 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
