SEDarc - South East Doctoral Training Arc DTP
Welcome to the South East Doctoral Training Arc (SEDarc) at Βι¶ΉΣ³»!
SEDarc is our newest Social Sciences postgraduate research programme, commencing in 2024 and funded by the il (ESRC). The 6 partner Universities are:β€― (lead institute); ; ; and the Βι¶ΉΣ³».
While registered for a SEDarc Βι¶ΉΣ³» degree, you are expected to:
- Conduct an independent, challenge0led research project achievable in 2.5 years
- Complete a Development Needs Analysis (DNA) and follow 200 houts per year of subject specific training and wider professoinal development (logging your training on the SEDrac Inkpath system)
- Undertake a funded, three-month placement which can be completed flexibly (part-time, or in several blocks)
- Receive a scholarship covering fees, a living allowance and research expenses, for a minimum of 3.25 years OR 3.5 years for a PhD including the placement OR 4.5 years for a Masters+PhD programme
- Submit, at the end of your funding, a new style of PhD thesis which includes reflection on your training journey, your placement and knowledge exchange activities.

As SEDarc student, you have access to addtional funding for:
- research and training costs (covering conferences, participant costs, UK fieldwork) for a maximum of £3000
- Overseas fieldwork (maximum £4000 total)
- Language training (Difficult Language Training, or DLT, which can extend your scholarship
- Spending time at a university or research institute abroad if you successfully apply for an Overseas Institutional Visit (OVI) or overseas placement
