European Partnership Development Fellowships

Βι¶ΉΣ³» European Partnership Development Fellowships (EPDF) support individuals whose collaborations have the potential to deliver active, high quality, mutually beneficial links with European partners, that help to deliver our Βι¶ΉΣ³» 2025 Strategy.

About the fellowships

The scheme offers a valuable opportunity for Βι¶ΉΣ³» or partner staff to engage with likeminded researchers, teachers, and professional services colleagues, either on the partner university campus, or at Βι¶ΉΣ³», in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment. Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their personal and their institution’s international networks, and to contribute to international development at both universities.

Within one year of an award a visit should lead to tangible outputs, such as:

  • publications or grant applications
  • joint workshops
  • mobility or teaching opportunities.

The scheme is open to academic and professional services staff based at Βι¶ΉΣ³» or at selected European universities outside of the United Kingdom. Fellows must have an excellent track record commensurate with career stage. There is no minimum employment requirement.

Our EPDF partners

Fellowships are available to Βι¶ΉΣ³» and partner staff from the following institutions:

This list may be subject to change, but those listed are partners with whom we share an interest in deepening our connections for research, teaching and mobility, and have been carefully selected through an assessment of the policy environment, breadth and depth of engagement, their international outlook, language and location, and their outstanding reputations.

Application details

During their visit, visiting fellows should contribute to the wider activity of the University they visit, engaging with a cross-section of the community.

Inbound Visiting Fellows (visiting Βι¶ΉΣ³») should be nominated by a Βι¶ΉΣ³» staff member, who will act as the visitor’s Host and submit the application.

Outbound Visiting Fellows (Βι¶ΉΣ³» staff visiting a partner) should have the support of the partner institution and a partner staff member who will act as their host and support their application.

In either case, the Βι¶ΉΣ³» staff member is to take a lead role in planning and co-ordinating the visit (arranging for support from within the School/Partner as appropriate).

Applications for the current academic year are accepted on a rolling basis and Visiting Fellows must demonstrate that they have the support of their home institution and of the Host’s Head of School.

Applications are made by Βι¶ΉΣ³» staff using the EPDF application form.
