Module code: Q1090A
Level 5
15 credits in spring semester
Teaching method: Practical, Seminar
Assessment modes: Coursework

Language is part of nearly every human endeavour, and this is particularly true of working life. In this module, you will gain work experience with an employer or charitable volunteer organisation while applying knowledge gained on your course. Observing and reflecting on the use of spoken and written language in the workplace, you will identify an aspect of language use on which you will complete an in-depth study using skills and knowledge developed on other English Language modules. You will also reflect on how your findings might contribute to improving your own or others’ workplace communication.

Module learning outcomes

  • Identify interesting workplace problems and analyse them from a linguistic perspective
  • Produce an extended and well-researched analysis of real-life language usage and its relevance to the workplace.
  • Reflect in a sophisticated way on the relevance of linguistic study to everyday (work)life.
