Are you a current Βι¶ΉΣ³» student looking for rewarding, flexible, well-paid work that focuses on creativity, literacy and community engagement?
Do you want to find like-minded people from across the School of Media, Arts and Humanities, the wider university, and from all stages of their academic careers - from undergraduate to doctoral researcher? Do you want to practise your degree learning in a new context and develop valuable new skills?
Join Βι¶ΉΣ³» Writes! No prior experience necessary: all training is provided. An Enhanced DBS and NSPCC-certified safeguarding course will also be provided, funded by the University.
We run creative writing and literacy projects in the local and global community. Βι¶ΉΣ³» students help design and deliver inspiring workshops for vulnerable communities and children left behind post-pandemic. At our core, we promote the value of creativity in human development and wellbeing, and the importance of literacy to access education and opportunities. It is a hands-on and exciting set of projects where our students are leading on the workshop design and provide the delivery. This is a co-created project working with partners, and involves student-led projects and interventions. The projects are fully funded and students are paid at the SU rate for all projects.
Current projects for 2023/24: Messy Page, Clear Minds journaling and wellbeing project; the HPQ Intervention; poetry workshops at local schools; a health literacy project with a Ghanaian partner; four x 10-week creative writing courses in local schools in Spring.
Past projects: a six-week creative writing course at Gildredge High; helping university students in Mumbai set up a similar programme to Βι¶ΉΣ³» Writes with looked-after children in India; a one-day creative writing extravaganza with 90 young people from a local school; global writing cafes in partnership with a Nigerian art and book festival.
